Body Hair on Film

Hair today, shorn tomorrow (and yesterday)

Hello and welcome to my imaginatively titled blog ‘Body Hair on Film’.

The aim of this site is to survey and offer insight into the presence and indeed the absence of body hair in cinema.

I have for a while been interested in how cinema addresses the body, that is, how film evokes and stimulates the senses beyond sight and sound through rich textures and synaesthesia.

I am now looking to address how bodies on film are themselves textured; specifically, how the stylization of women’s bodies on-screen is edited right down to the epidermis.

More about the specifics of the project can be found here and here.

I also hope to use this space as an aggregate for reflections on the hirsute representations of women’s bodies across the media.

The blog of course has a Facebook page ‘Body Hair on Film’ which I can be contacted via if you wanted to get in touch!

Thanks for stopping by,
