It’s not just women who are faced with the hairlessness norm. Men are finding themselves under increasing pressure to remove their body hair too. This has been reflected in body hair news coverage.

Chris Crofton counsels a concerned hirsute male in Body Hair and the Modern Man.

Women are also being surveyed on their body hair tastes and Mens Fitness found that ‘[o]ut of the 105 women, 78 said they dig it (73%), while 28 (27%) would prefer a hairless man’.

Popsugar conducted a similar survey (with real women’s voices! – think Betty Friedan’s The Feminine Mystique but with shaved balls) detailing ‘[n]ew research […] that suggests that a hairless body is no longer strictly feminine or masculine but rather a common ideal shared across genders just as in ancient times’.

And Cheat Sheet offers The Pre-Date Grooming Guide for Men which includes showering (!), teeth brushing (!!) and of course body hair advice (at least a trim).

New addition: Frankly this one from Arabian Business is a little depressing: A guide to the modern man’s grooming.
