Diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome, Harnaam started to grow a beard as a teenager. After contemplating suicide due to the abuse she faced over her appearance she instead ‘decided to turn all that negative energy into positive energy, and grasp hold of life’. She continues, ‘I wanted to live a happy life, and I made the decision to keep my beard and accept my body for the way it was formed’.

The portrait shown here features as part of #Project60 a series of portraits used to launch Beard Season a not-for-profit organisation which encourages winter beard growth to improve skin cancer awareness.
